China Vows to Protect Interests After New US Sanctions on Iran
BEIJING: China will take “comprehensible action” to protect its national interests in response to new U.S. sanctions against Tehran, China’s foreign ministry said after Beijing announced on Wednesday it would impose stricter security measures to protect its economic interests.
At a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated that China’s position has been repeatedly made clear, it is firmly against illegal unilateral sanctions and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and economic interests.
In the United States, the financial crackdown has happened and Beijing has rejected economic coercion.
Iran’s biggest trading partner, Beijing, will be impacted by the consequences of the latest round of sanctions, which are described by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as the “largest financial operation in history.
The US Treasury Secretary called it an economic “D-Day” and said Washington would cut off economic ties with Iran and exclude any countries that have economic relationships with Tehran from the international financial system. The Chinese Foreign Ministry, which did not support the move, said that unilateral sanctions are not a solution to problems and that economic warfare and pressure will only aggravate conflicts, harm the global economy and financial system.
