Bomb Disposal Unit Releases Detailed Report on Kohat Police Lines Blast, Revealing 869 KG of Explosives Used
KOHAT: The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) submitted its detailed and comprehensive technical report of the devastating terrorist attack in Kohat Police Lines to Central Police Office.The official report says that the experts had mapped the exact epicentre of the blast to judge the type and the magnitude of the explosive material.
The result of the explosion was a huge crater, 6.6 by 11 feet across and four and a half feet deep. The BDU report revealed that 869 kilograms of high-grade explosive was used in the attack. The authorities have also been able to make a preliminary identification of the car in which the man in the compound was shot.Additionally, unexploded ammunition and explosive devices were recovered from inside the Special Branch building.
A total of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found on the ground floor and one suicide vest containing four more IEDs was found on the first floor of the building. The BDU report had stated that after the initial blast which came from a vehicle, heavily armed men had infiltrated the old Kohat Police Lines complex and had taken up fortified positions within the Special Branch block before engaging security forces.
The attack took place on September 18 when a suicide bomber struck a mosque in the Kohat Police Lines during Friday prayers killing 22 people, including police officers, and injuring more than 100 others.
