May 9 Cases: ATC Lahore Adjourns Hearing on Ejaz Chaudhry’s Bail Pleas Until September 9
LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore postponed bail hearings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Chaudhry in three cases over incidents of violence on May 9 until September 9.
Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Manzar Ali Gul presided over the hearing of bail petitions of Ejaz Chaudhry. While the hearing was underway, the petitioner’s counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, pleaded in court.
Prosecution Requests More Time for Case Records
At the hearing, the prosecution asked for more time from the court to provide the full case records. The court agreed and postponed further hearing on the bail applications till September 9.
In the session, defense lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq argued that the prosecution is trying to postpone judicial rulings on the bail applications.
Nature of Cases and Allegations
In high-profile cases of attack on Jinnah House, attack on Askari Tower and burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House, Ezaz Chaudhry has applied for bail.
The PTI chief has been included in the key suspects recommended in the May 9 riots cases, in which the authorities allege he incited party activists to carry out arson, vandalism and violent demonstrations.
