Another Mpox Case Reported in Karachi, Raising Sindh’s Total Count to 42 Confirmed Infections

KARACHI: Another new case of mpox has been confirmed in Karachi, bringing the tally of confirmed cases in Sindh province to 42 this year.

Hospital administration sources indicate that a 45 year old Surjani Town resident has been confirmed to be infected with the virus. Their case was referred to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital where attending doctors noted characteristic skin lesions and recommended diagnostic screening.

The patient had been diagnosed with the disease after the results of a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test came back positive and she was taken into hospital isolation. Upon confirmation in the lab, the patient has been placed under strict medical and isolation protocols and is in ongoing care at the facility.

As per Provincial Health Statistics and SurveillanceData of provincial health department 42 cases of mpox have been reported so far in the province, with 14 of them confined to Karachi alone.

Public health officials and surveillance teams are still monitoring the spread of the disease through vectors, and they are encouraging people to report them as early as possible if they have an unusual rash, blisters or a flu-like illness.
