All Trains Cannot Be Upgraded in One Year: Muhammad Hanif Abbasi

MULTAN: The complete modernization and upgrading of all trains in Pakistan is not feasible in one year, stated the Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi.

The Minister, addressing the media in Multan, described the progress in the administration of the railway industry, and explained that concerted steps were being taken to address the shortcomings in the system. He pointed out that the Karakoram Express and Millat Express are among the most popular passenger services being upgraded on a regular basis to enhance passenger facilities.

The Activities are being developed in the context of the Revenue Growth and Track Modernisation Projects.
Abbasi detailed the financial performance of the department, saying that overall revenues have grown from Rs 88 billion to Rs 115 billion, and lease income has jumped from Rs 8 billion to Rs 16 billion.

For future, the Federal Minister said a proposal has been made to upgrade the railway track from Rohri to Karachi and rehabilitation works were planned for the main line from Rohri to Multan. The ministry has also had positive consultations with provincial governments to obtain wider support for improvements in railway infrastructure, he added.
