Prime Minister Receives Syrian Foreign Minister, Agreement Reached to Further Strengthen Bilateral Ties
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic Assad Hassan Al-Shaibani met the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad at a high-level meeting. The talks focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, addressing the regional security situation and enhancing the reconstruction efforts for Syria.
Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the delegation of the Syrian Foreign Minister, and expressed his best wishes to President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and recalled their recent diplomatic meetings. The PM restated Pakistan’s commitment to sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, noting Islamabad’s stance on regional issues such as the Golan Heights with Damascus.
Improvement of the economic, cultural and aviation relations
The Prime Minister emphasised that the long-standing and enduring partnership between the countries should be brought to fruition through concrete cooperation in various fields including politics, defence, trade and investment, education and human resource development. He added that direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Syria would drastically enhance people-to-people contacts and ease the way for pilgrims from Pakistan.
The Syrian Foreign Minister presented a special message of goodwill from Syria’s President Ahmed Al-Sharaa to Prime Minister Shehbaz and briefed him on the latest developments in the political and reconstruction processes in Syria. Al-Shaibani expressed his gratitude for Islamabad’s constant support, and emphasized Damascus’s eagerness to further cooperate with the city on all levels in the future. Prime Minister Shehbaz formally extended an invitation to President Ahmed Al-Sharaa to come for an official visit to Pakistan.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Amna Baloch attended the meeting.
