Parliament Passes Defence Forces Act and NCA Amendments

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly and Senate have approved the Defence Forces Act 2026 and amendment to the National Command Authority (NCA) Act by majority voting.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif presented the bills in the supplementary agenda. The bills were introduced earlier this session of the National Assembly, and the opposition walked out in protest, but both were passed by a majority vote. Before the parliament endorses, the federal cabinet gave approval to the drafts in a meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The law was drafted following the structural changes made through the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. The bill seeks to provide the structure and means of administration and operations for the Chief of Defence Forces and its headquarters.
