Imaan Mazari Case: Better Not Take Any Opinion on IHC System, Remarks Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan
ISLAMABAD: Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said that the system should be made fully visible, as cases could be lost from the system but the court was here.
A two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and including Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, heard the suspension appeals. In the course of the court proceedings Justice Afghan asked about the length of the winter vacation at Islamabad High Court. The Additional Attorney General told the bench that the Islamabad High Court would officially re-open on September 6 and that it was not maintainable to seek suspension of the sentence.
Next hearing date has been scheduled and the court date is posted.
Counsel Faisal Chaudhry then drew the attention of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim to the earlier order of the Supreme Court for the suspension appeals to be decided in two weeks, which has not been followed. The Additional Attorney General replied that Islamabad High Court has its own administrative system to fix cases.
Responding to concerns about case management, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan commented, “It is better if nothing is taken from us about the Islamabad High Court system, the system needs to be brought to the fore. Justice Afghan replied, “The case might soon be removed from the digital cause list or fixed; do not worry, we are with you.”
The court postponed the remaining hearing of the case till 17 September, noting that a judgment will be issued or that the petitioners could drop the application on that date.
