Fuel Crisis Deepens in Russia, Imports Begin
MOSCOW: Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has said that Russia has started importing fuel because of a growing shortage of it at home. After repeated attacks on Russian oil refineries by Ukrainian drones, the crisis has intensified considerably after the attacks, news agencies said, adding that it has seriously affected domestic processing operations and production.
The shutting down of several refineries has significantly affected availability of petrol and other critical fuels across the country. In several Russian cities filling stations have been compelled to enforce tight restrictions on fuel sales, citizens face long queues to get fuel supplies.There has been no respite as authorities are still trying to meet the huge deficit in supplies by resorting to imports from outside sources to keep the market afloat.
