Hockey World Cup: India Defeats Pakistan 3-5
AMSTELVEEN: India beat Pakistan 3-5 in the last group match of the Hockey World Cup but failed to qualify for the second round of Hockey World Cup. India scored two goals in the opening quarter of the match, but Pakistan could not score any, putting the hosts 0-2 up after the first 12 minutes.
The Indians went 0-3 ahead in the second quarter but Pakistan came out with brilliant efforts from Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan to level the scores at 2-3. India, by the end of second quarter, had a lead of 2-4 points.
The second half action and tournament exit will be treated as a training session.
India added another goal in the third quarter, and Pakistan added their third goal in the fourth quarter, but the game ended 3-5 with India winning. Hannan Shahid netted two goals and Sufyan Khan contributed a goal for Pakistan.
After eight years, Pakistan got a chance to enter the Hockey World Cup and they didn’t manage to win a single game in the tournament. Pakistan was beaten 1-4 by England and drew 3-3 with Wales.
As a result, Pakistan failed to qualify for the second round of the World Cup with just one point in the group stage.
