Punjab Educational Boards Decide on Major Reforms

LAHORE: Significant changes have been agreed on to ensure the examination system in the educational boards of Punjab becomes transparent and effective. The reform in the examinations will be implemented all throughout the system from question paper preparation to the announcement of results. Taking student’s abilities and standards of education into consideration, it has been decided that easy, difficult and very difficult types of questions will be included in the question papers.

A formal item bank will also be developed for the preparation of question papers for better quality and balanced questions in examination.

The marking is carried out in a step-by-step manner and results are announced earlier.
Under the examination reforms, it has also been decided to change the procedure for marking papers. Marks will be awarded for each stage of every question in order that the students correct answers and stage by stage solutions can be appropriately assessed.

The announcement said that the first annual intermediate examination (AIE) results will be released in the second week of August from next year, as opposed to September.

Directions have been dispatched to all educational boards for conducting the examinations reforms. The Chairman of the Task Force on Examinations said that the proposed reforms would bring transparency to the exams, make it more effective and ease for the students.
