13 Nations Officially Join Maritime Defense Alliance with Saudi Command and Pakistan as Deputy
JEDDAH; Representatives from 39 nations participated in the third strategic planning meeting of the Maritime Defense Alliance in Jeddah and 13 countries have officially confirmed joining the alliance.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense said the alliance will be run under a Saudi commander and Pakistan will be the deputy commander in the first phase.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense said the main goal of forming the alliance is to strengthen maritime security, protect the freedom of navigation in the world’s shipping lanes and promote cooperation in operations between the alliance’s members. The discussions at the Jeddah conference also outlined the future of the alliance and the methods in which the two nations will join in maritime protection.
