MUZAFFARABAD:Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) celebrated the Independence Day of Pakistan with traditional fervor and enthusiasm, organizing various security, stability, and prosperity-related events in Muzaffarabad as the focus.
The main flag-hoisting ceremony was organized at the High Court Ground in Muzaffarabad where the President of the AJK, Chaudhry Latif Akbar and the Prime Minister, Faisal Rathore together hoisted the national flag.
A separate prestigious function was held on the lawns of Supreme Court of AJK with Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram raising the national flag. He was accompanied by the Senior Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Raza Ali Khan, Justice Khalid Yusuf, High Court Chief Justice Justice Liaquat Shaheen, Justice Shahid Bahar and a large number of lawyers.
After the flag hoisting a good show of the guard of honour was presented by the smart police contingent. Children of the schools sang patriotic national songs, making the venue very cheerful.
Raja Saeed Akram, the Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court, compared the region with Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIJK) where he said absolute power had been given to the Lieutenant Governor in New Delhi. On the other hand, he said that Pakistan has provided strong democratic institutions for AJK citizens, which include a Supreme Court, High Court, and a Legislative Assembly; and people can elect their President, Prime Minister and government by their vote.
Justice Raja Saeed Akram added that the freedom that they enjoy in AJK is in gift of Pakistan. While emphasising national security, he commended Pakistan as a potent nuclear power and applauded the Armed Forces for making Pakistan among the top defence forces of the world. The ceremony ended with cutting of an Independence Day cake followed by special prayers for the continuing security and development of Pakistan.
