Pakistan’s Petroleum Levy Collections Exceed Government Targets and IMF Estimates in FY26
ISLAMABAD:Official statistics indicate that collections of the petroleum levy (PL) for FY25-26 have exceeded the official targets and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predictions.
The total collection of petroleum levy has been some Rs100 billion over the initial government target, according to sources. Moreover, collections exceeded the estimated amount by Rs21 billion, with the original fiscal target of Rs1.468 trillion compared to the IMF estimate of Rs1.546 trillion. Besides normal petroleum duties, Rs50.16 billion was also credited to the Climate Support Levy.According to the comparative financials, the revenue has been currently growing from the previous year, having been Rs1.220 trillion in FY24–25, up from Rs1.019 trillion in FY23–24, and Rs580 billion in FY22–23.
A current breakdown of the rates reveals that the petroleum levy rates on petrol and high-speed diesel are up to Rs80 and Rs77.28 per litre respectively, apart from the additional Climate Support Levy of Rs5 per litre.
