Pakistan Maintains Decision to Import 1 Million Tonnes of Wheat to Ensure Food Security
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar presided over a high-level meeting of the steering committee on wheat during which the government reiterated its commitment to importing 1 million tonnes of wheat to meet the country’s wheat needs.
In the session in Islamabad, officials discussed the availability of wheat nationwide, provincial needs, and the prevailing market conditions. The committee highlighted that the main purpose of wheat imports is to ease price pressures in the domestic market and provide direct assistance to the people.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar instructed the relevant authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat throughout the country. He highlighted the need for timely importation to ensure stability in flour prices and avoid inflationary pressures on consumers.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of National Food Security, the Ministry of Commerce and representatives from Sindh and Punjab.
