Gas Supply Schedule Revised and Further Stricter With the Onset of Winter; Domestic Consumers to Receive Gas for Only 8 Hours Out of 24 for Cooking Purposes
KARACHI : The formal start of winter has brought the gas supply timetable for domestic consumers in Sindh and Balochistan to be changed and tightened considerably.
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has reduced the hours of gas supply with the approval of the ministry and has come up with a new schedule which has come into immediate effect. The new timetable will now mean that domestic consumers will only receive gas for 8 hours of the 24 hour cycle – and during designated meal preparation time.
The revised Gas Supply Schedule and load management are highlighted below. The highlights of the revised Gas Supply Schedule and load management are highlighted below.
Designated Daily Cooking Time Slots: Gas will be provided only during three different time periods: 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM for breakfast, 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM for lunch, and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for dinner.
The previous Morning Window was 3 ½ hours long, from 0630AM to 10AM. The new schedule is also to provide only two and a half hours for breakfast in the morning, thereby reducing the cooking time available in the day to one hour.
Some of the reasons for the stricter load management are acute shortage of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the surge in demand of the gas during winter time, according to SSGC sources. Regional geopolitical events in the Middle East also have affected overall imports of fuels, officials said.
Consumer Challenges: Consumer analysts have noted that due to low prices of LPG in the market and near record high prices of natural gas, the winter season will be extremely challenging for consumers in the province of Sindh and Balochistan.
