NAB Issues Notice to Former Federal Minister Asad Mahmood Over Alleged Illegal Recruitment of Over 4,000 Personnel in Pakistan Post; Summoned to Appear in Person on November 10

RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has formally issued a notice to former Federal Minister, JUI-F leader and son of Maulana Fazlur Rehman Asad Mahmood for alleged illegal recruitment in Pakistan Post in an ongoing corruption probe.

NAB Rawalpindi has issued a comprehensive investigation into the recruitment of 4,252 employees on the tenure of then federal minister Asad Mahmood, which is well above the official quota of 2646 employees and reported limit of 3938 employees. Former minister is directed to appear before the joint investigation team in person on November 10 at 11:00 AM by the anti-graft watchdog.

The NAB Investigation Team has provided an overview of the key points of the case concerning the Pakistan Post Recruitment Process.
Excess and Unauthorized Appointments: The complaints in this case are about the hiring of 4,252 people despite the 2,646 appointments that had to be filled, and that the hires had violated cabinet directives, rules and established budgetary allocations.

Several Corruption Charges: The investigation covers multiple serious irregularities, such as permanent recruitment (as opposed to contract) rather than hiring, political favoritism, and fake and forged credentials, age limit relaxations and violation of regional domicile quotas on a large scale.

This is because Asad Mahmood had already been summoned before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad about that same scandal on November 2, but had not appeared when official notices were sent.
