Key Highlights of Lahore’s Digital Traffic Challan Crackdown:
Unpaid traffic challans are then automatically doubled after 10 days and the challans are formally handed over to courts with escalating penalties, officials said. In the past, with the penalty doubled, many citizens would simply surrender their confiscated papers, rather than go to court.
Traffic Challans and confiscated IDs are almost 800,000 (7.9 lakh) in total due to staggering of the Backlog. A number of citizens now have been strongly advised to settle their debts so that they can get their original identity cards and licenses and many previously avoided paying fines by getting a duplicate version, authorities said.
Now traffic wardens are appointed at every kachery (court) to improve the traffic proceedings, support the judges and facilitate the citizens to resolve their pending traffic cases.
