It Would Have Been Better If Maulana Fazlur Rehman Had Avoided Certain Words, Says PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar; Asserts Government’s Counter-Statements Are Unacceptable
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has said it would have been better if Maulana Fazlur Rehman, JUI-F chief, had avoided some of his statements in his speech, and at the same time reiterated that the government has made some harsh statements against him, which are completely unacceptable.
Speaking to the reporters outside the Parliament House, Barrister Gohar said that he had engaged in discussions with the leadership of JUI-F and noted that he asked them to not raise political sentiments to the extreme. He pointed out that the proposed electoral reform committee should be in equal number of government and opposition members, and if the government is truly serious about electoral reform, it should prove that by making the effort.
The following are some of the highlights of the Media Talk held by PTI Chairman, Barr. Gohar outside Parliament.
Anarchy and turmoil within the country is most harmful, Barrister Gohar said. He said political tensions have hit dangerous levels and he cautioned against any further escalation, adding that PTI does not want to go beyond the constitutional red lines and always values the state and Pakistan first.
Call for Political De-escalation: Warning that a further spike in political friction would inflict heavy blows on the country and democracy, Gohar announced that he would hold another meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman soon. He did not respond directly to the statements made by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi that exacerbated tensions and politicised controversial issues.
Electoral Reforms: Reiterating PTI’s principled stance, the PTI Chairman had reiterated that all political stakeholders need to work on the national agenda and engage in dialogue so that the country could exit the polarization in its current state.
