Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Decides to Review Legislation Enacted During PTI Tenure; Governor Faisal Karim Kundi Confirms Scrutiny of 76 Provincial Laws by a Special Committee Within Seven Days

PESHAWAR: The second phase of a detailed legal audit of all laws enacted under the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has been decided in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which features a total of 76 provincial legislations.

The provincial law department has set up a special committee to study the laws, official sources said. The committee is tasked to finalise its conclusions and submit official recommendations to the competent authorities within seven days and review 20 different provincial laws.

A few of the highlights of the KP government’s review of the bills brought by the PTI government have been provided below.
The scope of the Scrutiny and the Key Sectors: The review will take into account a broad spectrum of legislation, such as those relating to prosecution services, universities, medical teaching institutions (MTIs), the powers and privileges of the provincial assembly. Notably, the KP Prosecution Service Amendment Act 2025 is also included in the scrutiny list.

Governor KP: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi formally confirmed that the ongoing audit on the laws is on the way, and that each of the laws which is in violation of public interest or found to be flawed will be systematically amended and/or repealed.

The special committee is making progress along a 7-day fast-track schedule to write its report, which will inform future legislative changes in the province’s governance system.
