Good News for Pakistan’s Economy: OGDCL Commences Gas and Condensate Production From Betarsim East-1 Well in Khairpur, Sindh

ISLAMABAD : In a major boost to Pakistan’s energy sector and domestic fuel supply, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially commenced commercial production of gas and condensate from the Betarsim East-1 exploratory well located in the Khairpur district of Sindh.

According to an official spokesperson for OGDCL, the new well is currently yielding 7 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) alongside 200 barrels of condensate daily. Production from the well is expected to stabilize further, which will lead to subsequent increases in gas supply to the national grid.

OGDCL’s New Gas Discovery and Production

Integration With SSGC Network: To seamlessly channel the newly tapped reserves, OGDCL successfully laid a 28-kilometer-long gas pipeline connecting the Betarsim East-1 well directly to the Sinjhoro processing plant, with the extracted gas now fully integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network.

Joint Venture Shareholding: The Betarsim East-1 development project operates under a joint venture framework, where OGDCL holds a major 77.5 percent working interest, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) maintains a 22.5 percent share.

Strengthening Energy Security: OGDCL emphasized that this new production milestone will significantly contribute to bridging the domestic energy deficit, supplementing national gas supplies, and bolstering Pakistan’s long-term energy security.
