Judicial Commission Confirms Beyond Doubt That Mir Raza Was Murdered and Suicide Theory Must Be Buried, States Counsel Jibran Nasir; Demands Immediate Formation of JIT and FIA Inquiry
KARACHI: Well-known human rights attorney Jibran Nasir, who represented the victim’s family, has officially welcomed the report of the judicial commission and stated that the commission has conclusively proved that Mir Raza was not killed in a suicide attempt, as is being claimed.
In a statement to the media on the high-profile case, Jibran Nasir said the detailed findings of the judicial commission report had yet to be physically received, but it was “absolutely clear” from its findings that death was a murder, and the police should no longer be embarrassed by sticking with the suicide theory because “faith in the local police has completely evaporated”.
The above is a summary of the key highlights of the press briefing by Advocate Jibran Nasir on the report of the Judicial Commission.
Rejection of Suicide Narrative: Nasir insisted that the theory of suicide had to be buried forever and that intelligence-based investigations were the only way to uncover the real culprits.
Demand for JIT and FIA Inquiry: JIT and FIA inquiry should be made urgently by the administration by creating a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) within 24 hours with DIG West as the head of investigation, said the counsel. He also pointed to the commission’s proposed FIA investigation into officers who conducted the initial 10-day investigation, which was flawed.
Pursuit of Justice and Accountability: Nasir had said that family members can only get psychological relief once the real culprits are brought before them and all the commission’s recommendations were to be implemented within 24 hours with formal notification to the JIT and FIA inquiry soon to follow.
