Terrorism is the Biggest Problem Facing the Country; The Issue of Creating New Provinces Should Now Be Buried, States Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has stated that the province of Sindh doesn’t have a political majority to form new provinces, and the debate of forming new administrative units in Sindh must now be “buried” for good.
On provincial and national issues, Chief Minister Shah noted that there is no one-third support for changes to boundaries or forming new provinces despite the need for a strict two-thirds majority in the legislatures. He told the assembly to avoid troubling them with the proposition for the second time, stressing that terrorism is the country’s top and immediate challenge today.
Murad Ali Shah, chief minister of Sindh, in a media talk highlighted a number of issues.
Stance on New Provinces: Shah said that the process of forming new provinces should be done in accordance with constitutional processes, as mere “verbal rhetoric” is not enough, adding that it is not a process that can be rushed.
Support for National Unity and KP Governor’s Rule: The Chief Minister of the Sindh said that the best way to get rid of Governor’s Rule and emergency is to have a positive conversation about security developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He asked what the options are when a province is unwilling to cooperate, and emphasised the need for the four provinces to come “together in unity” to combat terrorism and that the declaration of Governor’s Rule is “constitutional”.
Talk about National Priorities: Chief Minister Shah called on political stakeholders to work beyond the administrative bickering and unite in their efforts to address security issues and economic stabilization.
