United States Announces Temporary Waiver on New Russia Sanctions; Executive Order Exempts Additional Tariffs on Russian Goods and Energy Trade Restrictions

WASHINGTON: The US government has announced a temporary waiver for some new sanctions and restrictions on Russia.

US President Donald Trump gave exemptions to many aspects of the Graham Act regarding Russia and Iran. The new executive order has lifted those extra tariffs on Russian products, and provided exemptions from certain enforcement limitations on purchasers of Russian oil and gas.

President Trump said it was done in the “national interest of the United States.” The waiver postpones any prospective tariff and commercial restrictions imposed by the bill, thus deferring any triggering of the prospect of heavy tariffs.

The procurement comes after a previous announcement by President Trump that he had plans for buying millions of tons of diesel from Russia to help regulate the price of global diesel supplies and prevent domestic supply chains from being disrupted.National Interest Justifications: Administration officials said the temporary exemptions are designed to support economic stability during the current international energy supply difficulties.
