We Will Not Launch a Nuclear Attack on Iran; There Is No Need for It, States US President Donald Trump; Rules Out Ground Troops Deployment

WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump has essentially stated that he will not launch a nuclear attack on Iran, saying that Washington doesn’t need to use atomic weapons.

President Trump clarified in an interview to American television network Newsmax that the GBU-43, also known as the “mother of all bombs”, is “a very large, very powerful weapon” but it is “entirely non-nuclear. I will not use nuclear weapons, Trump stressed, and that there is no “chance” for American ground troops to get into Iran.

The interview highlights the key points from President Donald Trump’s speech, and the regional context.
Nuclear Stockpile Discussions: Trump revealed they are currently discussing with Russia and China how to reduce the global nuclear stockpile, and that the U.S. is the number one nuclear power in the world, followed by Russia and China.

The president’s remarks follow a recent CNN report on the potential of using the world’s most powerful non-nuclear weapon, GBU-43, against Iranian nuclear and energy facilities. The Trump administration was looking at strategic operational windows, but there has been no official confirmation of any authorization for the GBU-43,” the report added.

About the GBU-43: It is one of the biggest conventional explosives ever developed and has only been used in combat once before by the U.S. military, in Afghanistan.
