Israel Panics Over Makkah Defense Pact, Calls It a ‘Dangerous’ Game-Changer
TEL AVIV: The historic trilateral Makkah Joint Defence Agreement that was signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey has raised alarm bells in Tel Aviv, where the Israeli government has termed the pact as a big security risk for the country. A senior Israeli official responsible for the country’s diaspora affairs was not holding back from expressing his readiness to label the trilateral military agreement as highly dangerous and alarming.
While acknowledging that a bilateral defense framework already existed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, but it is particularly concerned about the addition of Turkey, a regional power with direct, confrontational ties with Tel Aviv. Israeli security evaluations indicate that Saudi’s financial capability, Pakistan’s military-nuclear power and Turkey’s high tech defense technology form a potentially powerful strategic group that could influence the Middle East balance of power.
