Lahore Regains Top Spot as World’s Most Polluted City with AQI Exceeding 190; Weather Department Predicts Dry Conditions
LAHORE: The provincial capital of Punjab has once again been at the top of the list of the world’s most polluted cities as the toxic smog and particulate matter blanket over the cities.
Lahore’s AQI level has touched 190+ in the world according to the global monitors of air quality. The Met Office has predicted it will be partly cloudy today but there is no imminent risk of rain to clear up the sky over the city.
The following are some important points to note about the smog situation in Lahore and the advisory issued.
The air quality is rising and reaching the severe level due to poor weather conditions and increased vehicle emission levels, which endangers the health of the citizens, especially children, elderly and the people with respiratory diseases.
All of the following are essential Health and Safety precautions:
Stay Indoors: Refrain from unnecessary outdoor exposure particularly for people with asthma or chronic respiratory diseases. Tighten all windows and doors.
Mask Usage: People go outside are strongly encouraged to wear certified N95 or N99 masks to protect themselves from breathing in dangerous pollutants in the air.
Exercising Restrictions: Do not exercise outdoors during high smog hours or engage in heavy exercise. Instead, use indoor, air-conditioned options.
Reduce Emissions: Use public transportation or carpooling with family and friends to reduce vehicle congestion and limit local emissions.
Use of air purifiers for air cleaning: Actively utilize air purifiers at home to filter out harmful particles and create clean air circulation.
