How it works: The criminal group enticed gullible citizens with job offers to Canada, Italy and other European countries, promising study or work visas provided they paid for the paperwork, which wasn’t real, said NCCIA spokesman.

Additional Director Nisar Ahmed Khan informed that the number of victims are expected to be in hundreds. The police have immediately started forensic investigation of the devices recovered and put all commercial call centers in Rawalpindi under tight surveillance.

Assistant Director Rana Mohsin said that the call centers were also engaged in perpetrating romance scams and fake investment schemes online.

Public Warning and Helpline: The NCCIA has strongly warned citizens to not provide any personal, financial or identification data to any online entity that it cannot verify. There has been a call for victims or informants to report any suspicious activities as soon as they see them on the NCCIA helpline (1799).
