Federal and Provincial Governments Are on the Same Page to Restore Peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Former Administration Failed to Lead War on Terror, Says Mohsin Naqvi

PESHAWAR: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have announced that the federal government and the province are in complete “agreement” on the restoration of lasting peace and the elimination of terrorism in the province.

These were his important remarks made at the high-level Provincial Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar while co-chairing it. This session covered much detail on the assessment of provincial security environment, countering militant threats, increasing operational capacity of police officers, and optimizing development initiatives.

The Provincial Apex Committee Meeting highlighted key aspects discussed below:
Out-of-tune Provincial Leadership: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stated that the previous provincial government lacked proper leadership in the fight against militancy and pointed out that defeating militancy is not possible through speeches but through practical work done by the state. He said the security forces have the capacity to achieve better results if they have good government leadership.

The need to revise the targeted counter-terrorism policy in five vulnerable districts and launch a six-month programme focusing on strengthening police and allied institutions in those districts was stressed by Naqvi.

In his address, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has assured that the national security cannot be compromised and the law enforcement agencies would always have the support of the state. Emphasizing the lack of basic freedom of movement in merged tribal areas, Kundi said the restoration of security will enable the province to tap its huge mineral, oil, gas and tourism potential to attract investment and trade.

Assessment of the situation: Both leaders expressed appreciation for the resilience of security forces and civil administration in ensuring public order and effectively checking attempts to disseminate unrest in the province over the last 24 hours.
