Removal of Containers Begins in Islamabad After Three Weeks; Police Chief Directs Complete Clearance of All Major Thoroughfares by Evening

ISLAMABAD: Police in the federal capital have formally started clearing away the containers and barricades blocking roads in the city for more than three weeks.

The Islamabad police chief had given severe instructions to officials about the containers and said that there shouldn’t be any container visible on any main road or highway by evening. Heavy equipment and crews were used to clear all entry/exit points, main thoroughfares and perimeter areas.

A Road Clearance Operation is currently taking place in Islamabad, and here are some key highlights of the event.
The removal of the Long-Standing Barricades: The capital had been cordoned off with containers at the entry points, major highways and the high-security Red Zone for 24 days since the security deployments had been made in advance of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-PTI long march on Sept 19.

Instructions to Field Officials: Police officers directed traffic and field units to hurry up and move the people to clear the way and allow for safe mass transit throughout the city.

Unrestricted movement has been embraced by residents and business owners who have been removed from the blockades, with daily movement returning to normal following weeks of limited movement.
