Peshawar High Court Seeks Response from KP Government on Petition Seeking Appointment of Deputy Chief Minister; Petitioner Cites Governance Crisis

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has officially requested a reply from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province government over a petition for the constitutional appointment of a Deputy Chief Minister.

The hearing on the petition was held by two judges on the high court, Justice Ejaz Anwar leading the bench. In this context, the petitioner’s lawyer contended that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is busy with sit-ins and public rallies and political protests, leaving the province in a precarious governance situation.

In the arguments presented for Governance Crisis, the counsel argued that the crisis in administrative machinery is the result of political agitation, and that a Deputy Chief Minister cannot be dispensed from to ensure administrative continuity and to deal with the pressing public grievances.

After the petitioner’s counsel presented preliminary arguments, the bench asked for submissions from the provincial government with respect to the plea.

The court adjourned the proceedings on the matter further and postponed the same for hearing on a later date after giving notice to the administration to submit its reply.
