If KP Government Fails to Prioritize Counter-Terrorism, We Will Support Centre’s Emergency or Governor’s Rule, Warns Bilawal Bhutto
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has revealed that the federal government was ready to declare a state of emergency or Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while his party wanted to first try a political solution.
Speaking at a public gathering, Bilawal repeated that political agitation cannot come before national security and cautioned the provincial government to take a proactive role in combating the increasing political turmoil in the region and its accompanying terrorist threat.
The following are some salient points of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s speech:
Call for a Political Solution: Bilawal said that the federal setup had considered the adoption of emergency powers, but PPP intervened to push for a political solution to various political and security issues through democratic means and not immediate constitutional measures.
The PPP chairman condemned the KP government for not putting terrorism on the agenda and urged the government to join the federal government’s efforts to combat terrorism; otherwise, he said his party would have no option but to back the federal government’s emergency measures or Governor’s Rule in the province.
Demanding political responsibility, Bilawal urged the PTI leadership to withdraw from their planned long march on Islamabad and reach an agreement with the federal government for a joint effort to step up anti-terrorism measures and ensure the stability of the country.
