Three Traffic Police Personnel Martyred and Two Civilians Wounded in Armed Attack in Tank; Assailants Flee With Police Vehicle
TANK : At least three traffic police officers were martyred and two citizens injured in a gruesome act of terrorism when an unidentified armed motorcyclist opened indiscriminate fire on a traffic police vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district.
Local police and district officials said the attack was carried out in the Wazirabad area in Tank. The attackers attacked a traffic police car which was being patrolled, killing three traffic officers on the spot and escaping the scene. According to key details of the attack and casualties, the victims inside the vehicle perished on the spot while being targeted by heavy gunfire by the district police officials.
The attackers also stole the official vehicle of the traffic police and the weapons that were carried in the vehicle (the abandoned car of the traffic police was later recovered in Grah Budha by the police). Injured Civilians and Officers: Apart from the injured police personnel, two local civilians and an officer were also injured in the shoot out and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for immediate medical attention, including one ASI (Ismatullah).
After the incident, a large number of police and security personnel cordoned off the area, conducting a thorough search and establishing tight police cordon around all the main roads in the region to trap the fleeing guilty parties. The attack on the mobile van of the traffic police has been strongly condemned by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi expressed deep grief and sorrow at the martyrdom of the officers and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Reiterating the state’s resolve, the Interior Minister said: “We salute the supreme sacrifices of our police personnel. The sacrifices of the respondents in the fight against terror will not be lost.
