Punjab Government Calls in Rangers and Imposes Section 144 Province-Wide to Maintain Public Order Until October 5
LAHORE : To ensure public peace, protect law and order and save the life and property of citizens, the Punjab government officials have ordered the deployment of Pakistan Rangers and Section 144 in the whole province.
The Punjab Home Department has sent a formal communication to the federal Ministry of Interior for the deployment of the Rangers contingents in the sensitive districts Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali till October 5, 2026, as per official documents.
Breakdown of deployment by district
According to the approved plan for deployment of security forces, they will be deployed at places and points that are important for administration:
Rawalpindi: 3 Companies of Rangers deployed.
Attock: 5 Wings of Rangers activated.
Jhelum: 1 company of Rangers sent out.
Mianwali: 1 company of Rangers deployed.
The section 144 was implemented across the province.They’ve implemented the section 144 province-wide.
Meanwhile, the Section 144 has been implemented in Punjab beginning from today (September 23 to October 5). The assembly or gathering of five or more persons in open space, thoroughfares or public places is strictly prohibited.
Moreover, there is a blanket prohibition on carrying and displaying weapons in public spaces, and creating or inciting citizens to join in illegal assemblies. Exemptions will be granted for marriages, funeral prayers, burials and regular religious worship in a mosque and other designated places of worship, authorities clarified. The officials pointed out that these stringent preventive measures were imposed due to grave potential risks to public safety and regional security.
