Trenches to Be Dug on Highways Leading from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad as Federal Police Finalize Protest Blockade Strategy
ISLAMABAD: The federal police have settled a stringent operational plan to foil incoming protesters coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to the federal capital in the event of political protests and long marches in the area.
After a thorough review of all entry points from KP, it has been decided to dig the deep trenches at the major highways into Islamabad, official sources have said. In particular, the settlement plan is to dig trenches along the GT Road to block any protest convoys and strategic digging is to be done at 26 Number Chungi, Pirwodhai, IGP Road, Aswan Mor and Kati Pahari.

Besides digging roadways, the authorities have decided to put heavy shipping containers around the main roadways in Islamabad and fill them with sacks of sand and earth to make a strengthened barricade.
The Red Zone perimeter is being protected by substantial sandbagging in and around containers to prevent vehicles from moving. Scores of people have been engaged in emergency jobs and several tractor-trolleys carrying earth have been directly driven to the Red Zone to speed up the construction of sandbags.

In the other hand, addressing media briefings, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that there would be no room for any violent groups to get into the fold of Islam in Islamabad. The administration, police, Interior Minister, and the entire government are quite clear—routes will be open for regular traffic. He said the Islamabad HC has completely closed any doors on blocking roads or disturbing public movement; responsibility for this falls on the government and administration under the rule of law.
The Information Minister emphasized that the current welfare initiatives have been highlighted and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has successfully implemented the special nationwide fuel relief scheme, with stringent directions in place to make the scheme inclusive of common and underprivileged people instead of the elite.
