Islamabad High Court Approves Bail for 10 Chinese Nationals in Call Center Cyber Crime Case, Orders Rs500,000 Surety Bonds
ISLAMABAD: A bail petition filed by 10 Chinese nationals in connection with a high-profile call centre cyber crime case has been approved by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Sunday, pending bail on their bail bonds of Rs500,000 each on a bail bond.
Justice Shahrukh Arjumand issued a detailed judgement of five pages in which he granted relief to the accused, and expressly ordered the foreign nationals to appear in the trial court at each and every hearing and they are not allowed to leave Pakistan without a formal and prior order issued by the trial court.
The absence of specific evidence and incriminating evidence.
The prosecution did not present any evidence to the court to show that the accused person was responsible for a specific role or a specific crime, the court’s written verdict said. The judgment pointed out that there was no independent and specific evidence of electronic fraud or dissemination of obscene material to establish a nexus between the arrested suspects and the alleged electronic offences.
In the absence of any concrete and corroborative evidence of the petitioners’ alleged involvement in the main offences, their continued imprisonment was legally impermissible and they were therefore released on the payment of the appropriate surety bonds, the high court said.
