Authorities Decide to Completely Seal Islamabad’s Red Zone and Block Long March, Police Leaves Cancelled Until October 10

ISLAMABAD: Security measures are under way to barricade the entire Red Zone and Z-zone of the capital city after the authorities have finalized a tough security plan in anticipation of anticipated long marches by Jamaat-e-Islami, farmers’ groups and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

All five main access roads into the Red Zone will be shut down by law enforcement personnel and twin walls of shipping containers, according to official sources. The extended Red Zone will be cordoned off and only allowed access in emergency situations.

As a result, high-level security meetings and container deployments are available.
These harsh steps were hammered out in a high-level security meeting held in Islamabad with the IGs of all four provinces and top administration and police officials present. The meeting decided to stop and oppose the long march at any cost.

To this end, security measures have been scaled up on a massive scale throughout Islamabad and authorities have started to stack containers in all the main entry points. Besides, all kinds of leaves issued to Islamabad Police are cancelled from now till 10 next month for maximum operational readiness.
