KARACHI: Foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) have officially crossed the $21 billion mark for the first time in national history, breaking the central bank’s previous all-time high record set five years ago.
Confirming the historic milestone, SBP Chief Spokesperson Noor Ahmed stated that Pakistan has successfully received an inflow of $3 billion on account of Eurobonds.
Breakdown of Central and Commercial Bank Reserves
According to official figures released by the central bank, SBP’s foreign exchange reserves surged to $21.39 billion. The previous peak recorded by the central bank stood at $20.10 billion back in 2021.
Furthermore, data indicates that commercial banks currently hold $5.40 billion in depositor reserves, bringing Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves—combining both central and commercial bank holdings—to a robust level of $26.79 billion.
