Bushra Bibi Approaches Federal Constitutional Court for Early Hearing of Sentence Suspension Appeal, Citing Urgent Health Risks
ISLAMABAD: Bibi, the former first lady and incumbent of the 190 million-pound reference case, has formally requested the Federal Constitutional Court for an early hearing of her appeal for the suspension of her sentence.
The petitioner has also stated before the court that its ailment of the eye is once again rearing its ugly head, and that medical and healthcare services within the prison are still very poor in nature and are not able to cope with her ailments.
Urgent Medical Concerns for September 21st week and Appeal.
The petition highlights that if the treatment is delayed further, it may seriously compromise Bushra Bibi’s vision in her remaining eyes and her health balance. Moreover, it points out that the further she remains incarcerated in the midst of unresolved legal proceedings, the more her health is adversely affected.
The legal plea acknowledges the former First Lady is still imprisoned, and that her appeal is pending a fixed schedule for hearing, for which the defense has sought the case to be fixed during the judicial week that starts Sept. 21, 2026.
Considering that such unnecessary and undue delay has already prejudiced the petitioners, the petition requests the court to hear the petition at an early stage in the interest of justice. It is worth to observe that in January 2025, an accountability court sentenced former First Lady of Pakistan, Bushra Bibi, to seven years imprisonment in the 190 million paksani case.
