Pakistan’s Current Account Deficit Shrinks Significantly: August 2026 Deficit Drops to $100 Million Amid Rising Remittances and Exports

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) has shown a significant improvement in both monthly and annual terms, signifying the improvement of macroeconomic indicators.

Based on official statistical data released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the current account deficit of the country during the month of August, 2026 was $100 million (100 million dollars).

A sharp drop from previous month and annual figures
The new figures reflect significant improvement over the previous periods. As of July 2026, the current account deficit is $445 million ($445 million), while in August 2025, it was $320 million ($320 million) for the month.

Favorable remittance inflows from overseas workers and sustained gains in performance of the country’s exports have been cited as factors contributing to the deficit’s containment by financial and economic experts.

The sum of the deficit for the first two months of the fiscal year.
The current account deficit in Pakistan’s first two months of the current fiscal year (July – August) stood at $543 million.
