Power Sector Flaws Exposed: Federal Energy Minister Opens Up on Departmental Corruption and Demand Notice Rigging
ISLAMABAD:The Federal Minister for Power gave a chilling statement about the rot in his ministry and the institutional failure in a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Power.
The Federal Energy Minister, Muhammad Idrees, delivered a candid and critical account of the challenges in the power sector and the ongoing load shedding problem across the country to the Parliament during the session.

The Federal Energy Minister admitted there were corrupt people working within his own ministry who would under-report electricity load in a demand notice in order to receive a bribe.
The minister then called out for the officers of the department to be held accountable for their role in corruption and pointed out that technicians in the field take bribes, engage in corruption and systematically destroy the entire national power grid. He said the inability to accurately record the electricity loads in the demands notice puts additional unnecessary and undue pressure on the distribution network further exacerbating the problems in the power sector.
