Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Directs Free SMS Registration for Fuel Subsidy Scheme and Sets Nationwide Rollout Schedule
ISLAMABAD: In a high level review meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the progress of implementation of the Prime Minister’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme, setting immediate instructions to make the process of registration entirely free of cost to citizens.
The recently improved design of the targeted fuel subsidy will be available to those who own motorcycle, rickshaws or vehicle with engine capacity up to 800cc for passenger transportation. The relief scheme is set to officially launch for residents in Islamabad tonight (September 14-15) and nationwide rollout (Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and all provinces) to go live between September 16 and 17.
The program also involves On-Ground Administrative Support and Volunteer Mobilization.On-Ground Administrative Support and Volunteer Mobilization is also a part of the program.
The Prime Minister directed the district administration officials, the Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to be actively present on the ground to support common people. He highlighted the importance of facilitating and guiding the public to the maximum possible degree during the registration and token generation process.
In addition, PM Shehbaz Sharif ordered the active mobilization of elected public representatives and community volunteers to facilitate and smoothen the citizens’ digital registration and verification processes.
A comprehensive Public Awareness Campaign has been ordered.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need to keep the issue of accessibility in sharp focus, and directed an intensive and extensive media awareness campaign to be launched immediately. He ordered the dissemination of information advisories through all print, electronic, digital and social media channels to ensure timely dissemination.
Even if the government’s aim is to spread the information as widely as possible and help the maximum number of deserving citizens benefit from the relief scheme, the Prime Minister noted the need to use all communication channels.
