State Affairs Must Be Managed Responsibly Amid Global Challenges, Emphasizes Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan imports about 90 per cent of its energy needs and in this scenario, it is important to handle state affairs with great responsibility, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has emphasized.

Addressing a top-level federal press conference with cabinet colleagues, Ali Pervaiz Malik said that if government was based on aspirations, no PM or government would want to impose financial costs on the citizens. But he said state policies should be based on the national resources available and should be directed towards the greatest protection and relief of the vulnerable segments.

The Petroleum Minister said PM Shehbaz Sharif had given explicit instructions that, if the government was not able to stop the shock of international fuel markets altogether, any downward adjustment in the international markets should be offered to the public in a totally transparent way.

The minister underlined the magnitude of the welfare package that has been announced recently, and said that the relief measure will give financial assistance of up to Rs100 per litre to the weak ones of the society.

It includes the two-wheelers and three-wheelers (motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqis), as well as passenger vehicles of up to 800cc.

Malik said that such price adjustments in global oil markets will be followed with steady dividend transfers to the people.
