Sindh Assembly Unanimously Approves One-Year Extension for Rangers Deployment and Operational Powers
KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution approving a deployment and special operational powers of Pakistan Rangers in the province for one year.
The text of the resolution says the deployment of the paramilitary force will continue in all areas of Sindh till 19th July, 2027 from 20th July, 2026. The extension has been brought about via Article 147 of the constitution, which allows the federal government to send out civil armed forces if called upon by the provincial government.

Provincial Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Section Head of the ALI Defence wing Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Mohammed Rafique and Law Minister Dr. Abdur Rehman said that the presence of Rangers was still necessary to maintain peace among the public, ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and properties and secure the province.
The resolution praised the targeted killing, street crime reduction efforts in the major cities of the country by law enforcement as an effective measure. However, authorities emphasized there are ongoing dangers from banned groups and fugitives to be guarded against. The document specifically pointed to the importance of the role played by the Rangers in carrying out successful intelligence-based operations (IBOs) against criminal syndicates, along with the Sindh Police.

Law Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar in the session introduced other amendment bills of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Human Research Board and Iqra University which were unanimously accepted and approved by the house.
In a separate adjourn motion, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) lawmaker Aamir Siddiqui voiced grave concern over a sudden surge in incidents of dog bites in Karachi and asked the city’s municipal bodies to take adequate measures. Siddiqui managed to withdraw his motion after receiving a straight assurance from the Home Minister that remedial steps would be taken in a rush.
In the meantime, the lawmaker of MQM Fozia Hameed got some attention with a calling-notice that pointed out the excessive use of high intensity beam headlights by vehicles which regularly leave oncoming motorists blind, and cause traffic accidents resulting in the loss of life. Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar accepted the fault, saying that police-style and high-beam warning lights are often used without permission and a strict provincial crackdown will be implemented on the offenders.
Power Company CEOs Summoned
The Speaker of the Sindh Assembly formally directed the CEOs of the provincial power distribution companies on September 23 to attend a special committee of the Assembly to discuss the issue of public complaints against the electricity transmission companies before the end of the session. The chief executives of K-Electric, HESCO and SEPCO were asked to appear before the special committee of Sindh Assembly to discuss the issue of public complaints against their respective companies before the end of the session.
