Islamabad ATC Rejects Exemption Pleas, Maintains Arrest Warrants for KP CM Sohail Afridi in November 26 Protest Case
ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has kept the arrest warrants against Junaid Akbar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and others in the November 26 protest case alive.
In the hearing, the personal appearance not made by the accused, his/her exemption applications were refused by the ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra formally.
Proclamation Proceedings and Police Directives are to be continued.
The court confirmed the standing arrest warrants issued against the Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and other absconding or absent defendants and started parallel proceedings to declare the accused proclaimed offenders.
The court directed the police department to speed up investigations, directing that the full case challan be presented at the earliest against Sohail Afridi and others. The proceedings were then continued at the call of the Sixth Circuit Court Clerk, who set September 30 for them.
The criminal case against the KP chief minister and a few party leaders has been lodged at Margalla Police Station after the disturbances in November 26 demonstration.
