Major Milestone for Pakistan’s Energy Security: Joint Venture Between Pakistani and Turkish Companies Achieves First Gas Discovery
ISLAMABAD: A massive development to further bolster Pakistan’s energy security has taken a significant step with a joint venture project completed by Pakistan’s top energy companies.
The commercial production of gas has been officially started from Lundali-1 well in Sukkur Block, the newly tapped gas was successfully added to the transmission network of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said a formal notification from the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).

The Lundali-1 well is producing some 10 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) at a constant wellhead pressure of 2,000 pounds per square inch (psi), OGDCL said in a filing with the stock exchange.
It was a multi-company joint venture to get the exploratory well online. The working interests are split equally between OGDCL and Mari Energies (Mari Petroleum) with each holding a 30% interest, Prime Global Energies has a 25% working interest and Turkish Petroleum (TPOC) has a 15% working interest.
Building of National Energy Reserves
The energy analysts and market experts have welcomed the discovery as a significant step towards addressing the country’s fuel supply demand imbalance and curbing its dependence on foreign energy.
The project Lundali-1 is a success, giving a positive outlook to the discovery of additional hydrocarbon reserves in the Sukkur Block basin in general.
