Head of IAEA Being Used as a Tool by US and Europe, Iran Claims Amid Escalating Tensions
TEHRAN: Iran has issued a strong condemnation of international institutions, claiming the IAEA chief is being misused by the United States and the European powers.
In Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said in a press briefing that the issue of Iranian nuclear facilities should not be discussed if brought up to the UN Security Council is “unjustifiable and counterproductive. Baghaei charged the IAEA leadership with being influenced by the West.
In response to wider geopolitical issues, Baghaei pointed out that Washington’s current economic sanctions campaign is not limited to Iran but is an assault on the global community in general. He insisted that Tehran was not responsible for the economic difficulties and the disruptions of the supply routes caused by the unilateral American measures and that other countries were bearing the brunt of the consequences of America’s mistakes.
The foreign ministry’s spokesperson warned the South Korean and other allied countries against becoming tools of the United States’ policy or enforcement.
In the field of maritime security, Baghaei said it’s Washington and its allies who had started the attacks on commercial ships and continued that cycle and Tehran has the “legitimate right to self-defence” because of the ongoing naval blockade.
