More Rain Forecast Across Various Regions of Pakistan Today, Urban Flooding Risk Persists
ISLAMABAD: In a weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted further rainfall and thundershowers in different regions of the country including the twin cities, due to the prevailing weather conditions.
The upper parts of the country are currently being impacted by a westerly wave and the monsoon currents, which are active, causing intermittent rain, strong winds and thunderstorms, according to the Met Office.
PMD said that monsoon rains would continue in most districts of Punjab in the next 24 hours. Rainfall was received in several cities during last 24 hours such as Lahore, Attock, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Murree, Rawalpindi, Hafizabad, Narowal etc.Islamabad and Rawalpindi have seen intermittent periods of light to moderate rainfalls, which have helped a bit to stave off the very humid and hot weather.The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of potential flood in low lying areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore and Sialkot in the event of heavy rainfall.
In addition, authorities have warned that there is a high risk of landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to continuous heavy rains, which have made it extremely dangerous for both travelers and residents.
Meanwhile, water level in major rivers of most parts of Punjab is normal, according to provincial disaster management authorities’ spokesman. Water levels in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are presently in a normal seasonal range.
