US Approves $5 Billion Sale of Advanced Bombs to Saudi Arabia
WASHINGTON: The advanced bombs and military equipment worth an estimated $5 billion have been approved for sale to Saudi Arabia by the United States.
The greenlight includes the potential sale of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) systems and precision-guidance kits, which will be designed to be manufactured by the Boeing Company, according to the US State Department.
Furthermore, Honeywell has been authorized to sell a standalone $750-million in AGT-1500 tank engines to Saudi Arabia.The proposed military sale will greatly strengthen Saudi Arabia’s capacity to respond to current and future threats in the region, the US State Department said. Additionally, the package is expected to enhance the national defense readiness, meet the operational needs, and enhance the interoperability through continuing cooperation in the field of defense.
Furthermore, the United States has also approved two other defense accords with Oman and Iraq.An estimated $188 million potential agreement to provide maintenance, logistics, and support services for Oman’s F-16 aircraft fleet, as well as additional defense coordination measures for Iraq, has been approved by the US State Department.
