Weekly Inflation Rises by 0.65%, Annual Rate Reaches 8.35%

ISLAMABAD: Official data shows the country’s weekly inflation rate is up 0.65%, taking the yearly inflation rate to 8.35%.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has issued its weekly inflation report, which indicates that chicken, wheat flour, potatoes, onions and tomatoes among 17 essential commodities have increased in prices during the previous week.

Onion prices jumped 26% and tomato prices 2.55% in just one week, according to the PBS figures. Other commodities that saw price increases were wheat flour, live chicken, mash dal (black gram) and garlic.

It further added that prices of petroleum products were marked up in the same week for petrol and high-speed diesel.

Annual inflation trends of selected commodities
Price comparisons reveal significant price rises on an annual basis for a wide range of consumer goods. The prices of onion rose by 162%, wheat flour by 17% and red chilli powder by 16%.

In addition, the figures reveal that the price of mutton has been increased by more than 16% and beef by more than 13% while fresh milk and fresh bread prices have steadily increased.
